Manitoba LightRecycle program launched in May 2012 and accepts residential use fluorescent lights (tubes and compact fluorescent bulbs). The program operates according to the requirements of the Household Hazardous Material and Prescribed Material Stewardship Regulation on behalf of product manufacturers and retailers in the province.

The program is funded entirely by environmental handling fees (EHFs) remitted by ReGeneration’s industry members to the program. The fees apply to fluorescent lamps (Phase 1) as of May 1, 2012.

The fees are based on the number of units sold in the province during the reporting period. The fee is subject to sales tax (federal and provincial), as it is considered to be a part of the price of the regulated products.

Manufacturers or retailers may choose to build the fee into the product price, or display it as a separate charge to consumers at the time of sale.

Note: fee rates for MB paint and MB fluorescent lamps are the same rates as for the ReGeneration BC program.
