Large volume generators (LVGs) can recycle light bulbs, tubes, fixtures and ballasts free of charge with LightRecycle, providing the required quantities are met.

A range of recycling options exist through the program for large volume generators with lighting products used in institutional, commercial or industrial applications. Depending on the type and volume of products, large volume generators such as businesses, contractor, relampers, schools, hospitals and building managers may apply for a no-charge direct pick up. For a full list of accepted products, click here.

Please note: while the program will pick-up lamps directly from large volume generators (contractors, schools, hospitals, building managers, municipalities etc.) with enough lamps to qualify for this service, generators do not receive payment for their lamps unless they are acting as a service provider to the program, as outlined below.

An extensive network of collection sites also exist for generators with large volumes of lighting products to drop off across the province.

Are you a homeowner/consumer with a small quantity of light bulbs or tubes?
LightRecycle includes over 200 collection sites for consumers with household quantities of residential-use lamps (maximum of 16). See the BC Consumers page.

Light bulbs

Large volume generators (LVGs), including businesses, contractors, relampers, schools, and building managers, can recycle their light bulbs or tubes through the LightRecycle program without charge. LVGs can recycle in one of two ways.

  • Pick-Up Service for Whole Lamps – minimum of one pallet

Large volume generators are encouraged to consolidate a minimum of one pallet or more of whole light bulbs (i.e. light bulbs that have not been intentionally crushed) to qualify for a free pick-up service. A consolidated pallet of light bulbs should contain approximately:

    • 750 4 foot fluorescent tubes, or
    • 1,200 CFLs, or
    • 600 HID light bulbs, or
    • A combination of light types that would equate to the same volume

Note: Light bulbs vary in size. The above estimates are guidelines only. LightRecycle requires the light bulbs to be safely packaged before picking up, and will supply approved collection containers at no cost if required. Collection containers can be requested in advance. Containers and light bulbs MUST be protected from the weather and remain dry.
